Interestingly we only ever see these in mud wasp nests so the colouration may be working really well ... to our eyes at least. And actually this one has a wasp larva on it as well. And no we don't break the wasp nests deliberately but if they make a nest in the doorway or window then it gets broken when we open the door.
I think the head pattern is different from that at the LBH webpage, and there is no sign of the small dark ellipse on the side of the meta-thorax of David's specimen, but these differences could be instar-dependent.
