Hi Tim, another new species for CNM - good spotting! This is not a common species and I have not seen it myself before, so very interesting. No collections of this species from around the ACT appear on the Atlas of Living Australia so I will check records at ANIC to see whether it has been collected previously in the region - it probably has (most collections don't end up in a database) but will update when I find out. It is called an Epaulet Ant because the shoulders of the ant have bumps on them, reminiscent of epaulets. Cheers, Jon
Hi again Tim, I have checked at ANIC and can find no previous records for the ACT, although there is a collection from Queanbeyan! While the ant seems to be fairly widespread, it is pretty patchy and not often collected. I tracked down your location and have made a collection on behalf of ANIC (I have the required permit) which will end up in the database. Cheers, Jon
