Jackie, although this looks very different to the last specimen of this species I posted, I wondered whether it could be the same thing, as you did say they were very variable.
The leathery leaves and wide branching angle give this away as Notelaea, of which we only have one species to worry about in the southern half of the shire (longifolia occurs north of Bega but has velvety hairy leaves as a rule). The purple bud clusters in the leaf axils are also distinctive (though barely perceptible in these photos).
