Great image of this delightful little fungus. Yes, they are often found in small groups on algae covered earth, and peaty soil, including bush tracks, old rabbit mounds and earth banks. This genus, Lichenomphalia, is always found in association with an algae, forming a lichen. The algae will be amongst the moss. This is one of the few species of Basidiomycetes that combines in this way.
