on a minor track south of the Blue Metal road

There are certainly a very large number of them in that area, more north of the track than south of it, but also some on the other side of the gully to the south of the area (that would feed in the the area bounded by Bragg Street if that hadn't been developed), and some right on the little track that goes from the power lines to the houses, above Bragg Street. My guess is that a) the main area is rather marshy when it rains enough, which they like b) the houses and people inhibit grazing by kangaroos to some extent. And walkers spread them along the trails.

The more southerly plant of this sighting: Eryngium ovinum (Blue Devil) could be regarded as the most southern outpost of this macro-colony. Widely may it spread!
