Thanks Harvey. i assume that this is a female as it does not have the blue markings at the end of the abdomen as described by Theischinger and Hawking "The Complete Guide to Dragonflies of Australia" 2010 page 90.

Yes - it is a female. Unfortunately T&H has relatively few photos of females, which can be really quite different to the males.
