suggestion only - Xerula radicata var. australis

@teresa I think that is bang on, though I can never keep up with what the current name is. Is Xerula the most recent, or is it Hymenopellis?

I am so pleased that other people also have this 'what is the current name' problem. I tend to stick with the one I know (and love).

@arjay oh yeah, it is happening constantly, and in the plant world at least, there is a lot of contention (IE: DL Jones' orchid nomenclature being generally used in Canberra despite not being accepted by pretty much any botanical authority, so there is a bunch of unnecessary confusion). It's good times. 😅

@arjay and @Csteele4 I'm not 100% sure of the 'current name' - they change too frequently for me to keep up, however calling it Oudemansiella 'radicata group' is perfect as its the same thing. The names here are still in the process of alteration which is really time consuming, but will happen in time :) T

Totally agree about the orchid thing. Nice that people are thinking about the logic but we have some that have gone from being prasophyllum to genoplesium to corunastylis. We tend to stick with genoplesium ... easier to say.

So pleased you agree

Actually it sometimes makes it difficult to find a species since my books are old so all have the old names and then I have to find out what that equates to in modern terminology.

@arjay that's fair! Confusing as heck, hey!

Yep.

Initially, when I created this ‘species’ for Canberra Nature Map, the taxonomy of Australian Oudemansiellas was unclear. Should they be in Hymenopellis or Xerula? At that time I deliberately chose to follow the ‘incorrect’ Oudemansiella option. There are at least three radicata-looking species in the ACT and surrounds and a few minutes ago I had a look at what a couple of the major databases of fungal names had to say about the species recorded for Australia– and they don’t agree with each other. So, I think I’ll leave Oudemansiella ‘radicata group unchanged.

You gotta laugh really.

@Heino1 I think that is fair enough, really, and I trust your judgement on this!

@Heino1 well, it just gets more and more confusing for us amateurs! We are all happy to follow along with your suggestions, dear friend, you are probably more up to date than the rest of us. We all appreciate the assistance you so constantly provide. Thanks. T
